@Gizmo You can replicate the stroke effect in GD by rendering the text one pixel in each direction - so one up, one down, one left,one right. Four total renderings. Doesn't work well if you like antialiasing.

hello , i'm writing a parser for xml-like language (i don't want to use other parsers) i have a simple questions about the encoding attribute currently i'm assuming everything as utf8 no matter what the user type in the encoding attribute is that ok ? or do i need to follow the encoding that the user enters ? will there be a problem if i don't ?

UTF8 can handle every character, but that is not the same as every encoding. For example the extended ascii encoding for the copyright symbol is the byte 0xA9, but it is encoded in utf-8 as 0xC2 0xA9 - fileformat.info/info/unicode/char/a9/index.htm

@someone No. 0xA9 is not a valid utf-8 character sequence (aka way to encode a character) so whatever you are sending the 'parsed' data onto will object when you send it invalid UTF-8.

You need to convert the characters from the source encoding to whatever encoding you are using internally or saving the parsed data as.

en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UTF-8#Invalid_byte_sequences - I'd strongly recommend using someone elses parser. It's just not a good thing to try to re-invent.

This may seem like kind of an odd or dumb question to some... If someone was to write a web application in pure C and serve it up using CGI do you think there would be extreme performance gains over using something like PHP or ASP.net?

I am just pondering the idea of creating an OpenSource C CMS. From what I understand because C is a compiled language and is so close to the hardware level it executes extremely fast, so the hopes of the project would be to create the fastest CMS. I know that with proper caching and CDN's you can get extreme performance already but I think it would be great to try and make something that is just as fast, without the caching.

am building custom paginator with laravel 4.2. I'm following Anthony Vipond Custom Pagination tutorial on youtube. Which is nice tut though am stuck here.

Once this was authorized I do one of two things : Redirect to the same domain as an authorized user or Redirect to a different domain as an authorized user. The only problem I am having here is I want to pass some of the $_POST data across so I can set the session variables to match

@JustSteveKing I'm not sure what is the rightest way from the security point of view (if someone knows chime in) but the basic idea is this:
1. you authenticate user on the server-1
2. server-1 talks to server-2 directly saying that it just authenticated user-1 with token-123
3. you redirect the user to some page on server-2 and include some kind of token in the uri (in our case it's token-123)
4. server-2 reads the token, decides if it's valid and from that point it can send a new Set-Cookie header to the user to persist the act of authentication

URI is the only way to send any kind of data in this case. And BTW apart from server-server interaction actually there's the second option (which will clutter your url even more) - it's to use JWS token

To authenticate we go to domain1.com/login and then they login and create a valid session on domain1 -> now I need to pass this SESSION data over to domain2.com so that access to domain2.com/foo is available.

I can authenticate - but it means the autofill from session is not available

passing something like auth=1234 is simple and clean but all the session variables are not going to work :/

can't you store session data using an external solution (redis?) and fetch+write from there once the user is authenticated (doesn't matter how) on both domains?
