Smoke detectors have this genius logic where the best idea they could come up with to let you know the battery is dying is to scream and shout about it at random intervals, using the battery up even more

@ABuckau ok, so... simple example. what if the total number of deaths in past week is approximately equal to the total number of deaths in the same week in 2017, 2018 and 2019?
@Wiet it is way more complicated than that..has the population changed? immigrants? people leaving? changes in average lifespan? probably many more factors.
