Hello everyone, I start to see some spam posts in discussions carrying upvotes. One of the examples would be stackoverflow.com/beta/discussions/79179839/…. I suspect that there is a voting ring. May I have your guidance on what I can help to investigate/gather evidence about it, please?

@ray Honestly, it's probably users dissatisfied with the spam. But since you can't downvote, all you can do to signal to a post is an upvote.

Upvotes in Discussions don't really matter - no rep gain and nothing changes based on them. Unless you turn on sorting by votes but it's really a minor thing.

@VLAZ My only concern is that some sock puppet accounts slipped through and gained reputation(and thus privilege) to cause more harm. Thanks for relieving my concern, @VLAZ !

Discussions shouldn't be there

For me it's a complete waste of time moderating discussions

@Starship NO! SO Moderators are explicitly not responsible for moderating Discussions. CMs have explicitly stated that they are responsible for Discussions. I'm not going to step up to put in a lot of work to clean up something that would be trivial to do if SE had done the bare minimum amount of work necessary to make moderation of Discussions semi-reasonable (i.e., make Discussions accessible via the SE API, as they were told multiple times was needed, even before Discussions went live). SE has made choices to value the time of their volunteers at a negligible value and to assume that volunteer time is infinite. They won't change that, not even to make the trivial change of requiring more than one reputation point to post in Discussions, until there's actually a massive mess. I'm not going to do the extra work that they value at nothing.

Also, SOCVR rules explicitly state "Pinging moderators for anything that could be handled with a flag is not acceptable". Please don't do it again.

@Makyen Note: SO moderators are welcome to moderate Discussions, if we choose to, but it's specifically not something that's considered part of our responsibilities (i.e., there's no obligation).

np. I'm pissed off at SE, not you.

The above may come off a bit strong, but I'm kind of pissed off about how SE created a problem, refused to do the work that would let us easily handle it, said they would be the ones handling it, then dumped it on us volunteers to deal with.
