@AaronHall If you wouldn't mind, please edit this so it's not a onebox (i.e. add any additional text to the message). SOCVR tries to avoid using onebox formatting. My personal preference is to use Markdown to show the entire title linked to the post. That way, if it gets starred, then the title shows in the srarboard, rather than just the URL.

I wrote up the question and the answer, and searched via Stack Overflow's search and Google to be sure there wasn't already a good target to put my answer on, and then went ahead and posted it believing I had scooped the rest of the site. It got a very bad initial reception, for some reason, but it took them 12 hours to find the dupe target, which I feel validates my good-faith search for a dupe.

@bad_coder but it's interesting that you think it "doesn't add much" when, despite being labelled "the dupe", it's got far more views and upvotes than the canonical.

Regarding Jon Skeet, he worked on the development of C#. It would have been as if Guido van Rossum or Raymond Hettinger decided to spend two hours a day answering Python questions here. A really good answer has a way of turning around a bad question. The answers being given under question don't really fall into that category.

I did rely heavily on the docs but I also validated it with an interpreter, and I thought the comparison versus the enum-like class added a bit of value there. Of course, most people could easily do the comparison if they're already familiar, but part of my goal was to familiarize myself with the enum, especially since I thought it was a silly idea, originally. @DanielWiddis Well, sorta, yeah. Also because it works for me and new iPhones are expensive. I'm actually looking at getting a new phone, because I also need a new phone plan, and there are some deals associated with that. But I haven't decided yet whether I can step up all the way up to an iPhone 11-sized screen, or if I need to stick with the iPhone 11 Pro (which is physically bigger than the 6S's screen, but has effectively the same resolution, so no real improvement).

The catch is that I use my phone one-handed, and so while I'd like to have a larger screen, it cannot be big enough that I can't use it one-handed and reach everything I need to reach.

Fair points all. I held onto my 6S longer than any other phone I've ever had.

I tend to hold onto most things longer than usual. I will buy something relatively high-end, and then use it for as long as it works for me. It saves money in the long run, and it avoids superfluous changes. The 6S was the last phone I got majorly subsidized by AT&T, making it a very good deal.

I've never broken a phone, so I'm not forced to replace them all the time like others seem to be.

I used to get new iPhones every 2 years when AT&T would pay for them, but that stopped after the 6S.

I do arguably need a new phone now. My battery is beginning to get to the point where it won't hold up all day, and there must be some invisible lint or something packed into the speaker, since I have a hard time hearing people when holding the phone to my ear like a handset.

Plus, as I mentioned, I need to switch away from AT&T. I've been an AT&T customer since the first iPhone, when they were the only one who had unlimited data plans, but everyone has them now, and T-Mobile is (true to marketing) way cheaper.

Yep. I switched from ATT to T-Mobile and saved more than the cost of my phone upgrade. I do notice the service difference though. Ironic since I live 2 miles from T-Mobile HQ

From everything I can see, T-Mobile has excellent coverage, and folks have told me that their coverage maps are, if anything, an underestimate.

As a side note, any time I see AT&T for a very brief moment I read it as AT-AT so I imagine people are talking about some cruel overlord.

Since I moved out to the Silicon Valley area, I've noticed I get dropped calls and poor coverage which AT&T, which I also find ironic, given that area is sort of a high-tech hub. Based on what I can see, cell phones are kinda popular...

T-Mobile has true 5G coverage in some places, whereas AT&T doesn't. But that doesn't help me as an iPhone user.

No one I know in the SF Bay Area has any issues with T-Mobile, so I'm not too worried. Same in Austin, where my parents live and I visit relatively often.

I will say T-Mobile's customer service has been fantastic. And yeah. 5G. Apple has often been last to market on the new tech.

COVID-19 has made buying new phones a challenge, though. Everyone's converted their showrooms into "gallery-only" mode, which means you can't touch and feel the phones. How am I supposed to decide if my hand can comfortably accommodate an iPhone 11 if I can't sit and hold one?

I'm also wondering if I shouldn't stick with the iPhone SE, so I can keep the home button. That's what my parents are going to do, who are both upgrading from iPhone 6. The iPhone SE is also a heck of a lot cheaper. Since I don't use the camera for much, there aren't really any compelling features in the upgrade. Face ID seems like a misfeature in the time of mask-wearing.

@DanielWiddis You know what I miss? The NFC unlock feature that Android used to have. It's apparently quite underground and probably part of why it was removed but it was quite handy for me. In short, you could set up an NFC token as a trusted device allowed to unlock your phone. So if you scanned that NFC tag, it'd unlock without using a password, pin, etc. Or you could enter one as normal as well

The most useful thing was that I had an NFC ring, so in the winter I could unlock the phone without taking off my gloves. I also had some tasks linked to the NFC tag, so I could operate without needing to touch the phone.

However, Google removed the NFC unlocked feature some years back.

Huh, interesting feature. Apple does some of that from my phone to other devices, but the phone itself needs the face or pin. I actually haven't tried re-scanning my faceID with a mask on to see if it helps... haven't had to wear it often enough for that.

The use case was not that clear. You keep your phone in a poket where you keep your key with the nfc tag, and the wallet with the nfc card. I expect this feature to lock your phone for too many try.

I would just like things to work without me having to do anything. Walk away from my computer, it screen-locks. Come back it unlocks. I want to fire missiles at the the other aircraft just by thinking. (In Russian)

I saw the reverse of that feature, where walking up with your phone would automatically unlock your computer.

I don't really see the value of something else you carry around automatically unlocking your phone.

@DanielWiddis there are some people currently in power that I don't fancy that what they think actually happens ...

@DragandDrop I keep my phone in my pocket, yes, but the NFC tag is on my finger. No issue with accidental unlocks. It also takes some effort to unlock it - you have to find the sweet spot and hold the tag there for a moment. It's enough to avoid unlocking it even if I grab it with my NFC ring hand.

@oguzismail did you sort that out already, or should I take a look?

Can't we all just trust each other and do away with passwords and lock codes and stuff? What's the worst that can happen?

I see that they have a typo in the code and there is no MRE. The self answer moved the method from the code to the template, which doesn't make sense in the context of the question. @Vega OK. I don't really know if you're wrong, so I wasn't meaning to disagree. That is so far outside of my area of expertise that I couldn't hope to decide whether it has an MCVE or whether it is something that might be useful to others. It just didn't look like it was the sort of typo that would be useless to future viewers.

@MarcoBonelli No. We can see which regexes are used in the comment blacklist (i.e., what the system prevents you from posting altogether), but I don't think we have access to the flag regexes. They may have been shared in a private chat with some mods, though. I haven't checked carefully.

Take a look this, the title was edited just to make this a sign post. However there are already many sign posts for this, is it okay if I reverted the edit and made a del-pls request here? Because a simple, well-worded title is a very strong argument against a del-pls. I mean, just make the edit to older, highly active sign posts, right? What's the point of making another sign post?
