Imagine a new user upvotes own answer. Bam! "Post more links, answer protected questions" is granted instantly. Now multiply that with the type of spam we see on a daily basis.

@JanDvorak Here is the first instance I saw of it coming to fruition. Instead of the three tier ban system, if you get banned again within 30 days of your last ban ending, the new ban will be double the last ban's length, and there is no cap.
