Nor has the OP thought, well if the user cannot swipe up to grab the nav bar, how are they going to leave the app without using a hardware control? Which is not what you want to force your user to do.

I've tested this again in more sites and I can get a blue hat on any site by either up or down voting. I think that your first action of the day determines the colour. So if your first vote is down on any site today, you get blue hats everywhere, otherwise you get white hats. — DavidG 51 secs ago

I got a new secret hat: Flip Flop. I think the it has to do with voting on a post and then removing your vote. I was going through the late answers review queue, downvoted an answer, marked the post as reviewed, and then un-downvoted the answer. I got the blue version
