What to do with questions stemming from the usage of deprecated methods? In this case the OP found a seven year old code which worked back in the day, but the method has since been deprecated.

@Cerbrus It isn't a problem that cannot be reproduced. If you use the obsolete code, it isn't going to work. Hence, the solution is to use the new method. Sounds on-topic enough for me

Because that's what it is. SO places a restriction on a account because the account has been misbehaving.

@Cerbrus it is like you're saying to that guy that he can't use his credit card anymore but you allow him to create new credit cards. If SO was serious in term of ban, they would have flagged all the IP he used

Just a FYI you can tell it is C code because they are using a struct and they use struct before they us it's name. That is only done in C. All the rest of the code is C code as well. IMHO just because it could be compiled in a C++ compiler does not make it C++ code, and if that is what is being taught as C++ then they OP needs to run far, far away.
