@Magisch It is, in a way. There's a special status in France (Volontaire en Service Civique, roughly translates to "Civil Service Volunteer") that allows me to work for an association and be paid by the government. It amounts to 579€ per month, tax-free, and I get to have a bunch of advantages here and there (like for transport). It's still below the poverty threshold =p
