But would that not just make it WET? Reason I did it the way I did was so I was not repeating myself with the same block of code for every config option. Where the only difference would be the keyname.

@Wes why is that? Looking at the docs UnexpectedValueException is more fitting. us1.php.net/manual/en/class.logicexception.php it would not be a problem with the code itself, but rather an unexpected value in the config. Which would be either null or empty

no idea what WET is, anyway in general if you use debuggers you want to have the "throw" in the exact scope that caused the error, not in a "helper" method. the helper method should just instantiate the exception... also there is another reason, 1 sec
