don't think about the imageview. we are just talking about the image being scaled to it's "container", which could be the screen size or some imageview size

scaling while keeping the aspect ratio intact, means that if you double the height of the image then you double the width also

SomeoneReallyAwesome, imageView.. that depends! don't you have a maximum size that you can fit in your screen? (based on other stuff on the screen?) figure out a max height and width based on that. Can you make it any size? do you determine it at runtime?

the core idea being that if your imageview's size has the same aspect ratio as your image, then you won't get those bands

If width has to be == screenWidth, and you want to maintain the aspect ratio.. so.. lets say the imageWidth=100, screenWidth=400.. so, the image will be scaled up by screenWidth/imageWidth(4)? And to maintain the aspect ratio the height must be scaled up by the same factor?

@Avis444 if i remember correctly (i'm a junior dev.) an udid is the device's unique identifier and is not allowed to use in the SDK. as a develepor you can use the identiefier which represents an unique id which involves your app

so basically; udid = device id, identifier = vendor id for your app

which you can call with [[UIDevice currentDevice] identifierForVendor].UUIDString;

an udid is unique for the device. every app on the device will give the same udid (because it's the device's id)
what you can use is the vendor id (identiefierForVendor method) and that will give an unique id for the vendor. that means every app from the same vendor will result in the same unique id

Solved! The issue was that had sent to my collaborators the UUID finder App which apparently has a bug (at least on iOS 7 devices) because it gets the wrong uuid: It does substitute in the first part of the UUID a series of letters "F" and change the rest of the uuid: UUID / UDID / UID: FFFFF...
