Well, I just copied what would have been my vote for Shree to what is now a vote for Zoe. (The comment by Shog9 on Zoe's nomination also made an impression, BTW.)

IMHO, I don't think Shree had bad intentions. There is a language barrier. Even if Shree agreed with our answers, and couldn't articulate their own, copying ours was probably not the best way to go.

The questionnaire is meant to show us how an individual thinks. Any answer written in one's own words is better than copying.

@Dharman I think most of the mod team agrees with you on that, too, @Dharman. I certainly do. I don't see this as bad faith, just a very poor choice for understandable reasons. This is a large part of why we aren't suspending his account as we normally would for plagiarism (that, combined with the fact that it's a first offense). However, with blatant evidence of rule violations, we cannot look the other way, regardless of intentions.

Pretty fast paced process internally, honestly...

@IanCampbell We didn't make the decision lightly. Took a lot of time considering it, debating it amongst ourselves, considering alternatives, waiting to see if we could reach out to them personally before making a public announcement, etc.

Taking time to ensure this was the right decision was probably a good idea. Late, but correct, is more ideal than early and potentially haphazardly

It is also relevant that a day or two delay on the retraction doesn't really have a significant effect, thanks to the magic of STV's ranked voting.

So, like Spevacus said, better to take the time and do it right.

@Nick That's a shame. I will be totally honest that I identified the problem within 5 minutes of it being posted. Mostly because I was looking at the answer to the question I posted on Meta.

@IanCampbell The reviewer's main focus was on grammar. They're not active on SO (but are on other sites in the network), and presumably haven't read the other nominations, and probably assumed plagiarism wouldn't be a relevant concern. Hell, I didn't notice, and I wrote the source answers

@Dharman Quoting, with appropriate attribution, would have been within the rules. As would have been just saying "I agree with M and N here and would do the same thing", or even just not answering.

The candidate with no questionnaire this election did fill out a questionnaire for a previous election which isn't hard to find with the link in their statement. Perhaps they considered that good enough.

OK, fun story about people thinking you're older than you are. When I lived in Japan, I was 20 years old. There's a special way of pronouncing twenty years old and people would always correct me, being like "no twenty years old means twenty years old".
