but it's horrible for non-hover and it's not ideal either way, as it pops out to the side (or above or below) -- I might make instead something that adds the content in a paragraph below (with like a plus/minus to show hide) -- and not overtop like that but rather pushing the other content downwards.

then again the message in the tooltip* is fairly unnecessary anyway, since the visible text already explains the error code.

as for toggling the tooltip, there's also a trick to do a custom styled checkbox (sans the checkbox being seen, ofc) so you can use pure CSS to toggle the tooltip display
