@Darkyen you are right about everything, the problem is, a whole app can cost a lot of money, money that small companies dont have, so they adopt for free plguin that do the same or almost the same, but yes you are right

There is a little daemon running in the background on the same machine the browser is running on. I need to be able to trigger a change in the browser content when that daemon throws an event. I was thinking simply writing some content to a textfile that the JS could pick up.

I'd rather not involve a local http server if not needed

at github there is that funny issues tab. people tend to add feature requests there too even though its commonly used for bugreports

dropbox as example had a neat vote page where you could add a feature request and the community voted it up

they allowed you to spend all your votes on one request

also the community was able to see if the project management decided to work on a request
