A row doesn't create multiple rows. It puts each item in a row.
I guess it is kind of stupid to call it that. It would probably make more sense to think horizontal or vertical.
I assume it basically works the same as FlexBox in CSS or react-native.

So like if you were showing a list of cats in an app, you'd make a column and then you'd have a row for each cat, with each item in the row being the various cat information you need to display.
I guess it's just a matter of how you think about it. A column arranges things into a column. It doesn't create columns.

the way I draw arrays on a paper is usually starting from a list of rows, then delimiting the columns
so a Row = 1 record with N columns
here Column seems to be a distinct unit, we think Column not record
I wonder if they had this conversation when deciding on the nomenclature XD

I have no idea if this is how it functions internally, but probably a good way to think of it is that everything is wrapped in a column by default. UI stuff is generally made to flow vertically, since that's they way we scroll.
So if you think of it that way, making an initial row isn't quite so weird.
Although making a column would be kind of redundant.
but you probably still have to. haha
I'm probably just making this more confusing.

I think the main confusion for me is the fact the column is an independent component, not within say a table
Yeah, so frankly i think "vertical / horizontal layouts" would be more explicit
So it has no link to the concept of "Table"

You would have enjoyed old-school web dev. Websites used to be entirely designed with tables. That's maybe even where this all originally comes from.

does anyone know if /dev/uinput is present on non-rooted devices? I'm doing a project that may or may not need it in the future, but problem is, the only android device I have for development is already rooted (long ago) but don't want to undo the root just to see if it's there or not...
can anyone point me in the right direction as to know if it's there on non-rooted device? (eg: sites, blog, official sources) or maybe if someone can check on a recent real devices?
the only thing I know is that it's usually there on recent rom, and that if for some arcane reason, it happen to not be: either make one using linux commands, or recompile kernel with support for it
