I think there's two cultures here, the "stick together we're a team" culture where you're dismissive of the concerns of the group and the "we're together if we happen to be walking down the same path, feel free to do what you want" in where it's not an issue

We have to send some samples of the barcode to a client so they can get the OCR ready on their end, and the barcode is to tell them what to look for

So it was really just a minor deliverable, but still on the critical path
