A good hash key isn't really a defined, general metric

It depends on your application

For caching images sourced from the internet, the raw URL is probably fine - after all, one would reasonably expect the same image to come from the same URL each time

You might want to do something more involved if your images tend to have several query params that might alter the response

In that case you may end up with a low hit ratio, or even worse, false hits

On a more general application tho, you might not want URLs as hashcodes - they have vastly variable size, don't really conform to basic encodings, and can be hard to store efficiently in other datastructures - in that case, hashing the url (or known static parts of the url, such as URI without query params if possible), can give a fast, fixed size hashcode

So this is the scenario: I'm using Github API to get the files out of a directory. In that directory, I have an image (size > 1MB) and a text file. The problem is when I call the "getFile" method if the file is bigger than 1MB it throws an error.

I want to only get the content of the text file and the download_url of the image so in this case, I have to call "getFile" method on the text files and return download_url of the images. ATM I'm receiving the files one by one but I can't figure it out how to check if there's a text or image file

If you have the ability to upload files and stuff into this repo, why not just maintain an index.json which stores name, url, type for your images?

Or better, use an actual image hosting solution instead of github
