when I show the fragment directly, the title is wrong. it is the title of the activity shown but the "displaced" title is the one I set with the fragment...

so the way it layouts correctly it shows the wrong title

and vice versa

I will have to dig a bit deeper why the fragment lifecycle methods are not called correctly

but if invalidating fixes it, you can conclude it's a layout measurement, order of operations thing

I usually try to have all my views in place in onCreate and manipulate/set data from there to work with the life cycle.

It may be because you have a wrap_content height in the parent activity and the fragment is what stretches it out
