@Wietlol 100% agreed and as you mentioned a few weeks ago during a discussion with Neil, design principles first, then design patterns :D

since I am refactoring our open source software, at least my part that I developped which uses those 900lines long legacy methods, I learned a lot of principles and patterns

I see violating some principles way better

or see a way to get higher value from refactoring :D;
