bracket vs parens seem to be at least partially english vs us usage. I was used to them being parens, until I found that my english friends called them brackets. I'm not going to argue with them for the correct use of the language
one question to you guys - why is a answer to a bad question where the guy only wants that the answer build code for a problem, a bad answer if i give him only a link to the needed API ?
@MrT It's not an answer to link to another source, not even within the site. SO is a library of Q&A much like an encyclopedia. If you link to outside sources we can't be sure that that site is still up and running with the same URLs in 3 years. Therefore all answers must be written in the answer.
If you've written an answer still more positive than negative voted you can leave it because some people thinks it's good. I have one like that. It's at a 0 point because the ups and down cancel each other out

I think we are not on the same page. I asked if one regains the rep one has lost after deleting a question with negative score. You said no. Then I said that's unfair, as people lose their reputation on the answers to that same question
(I'm tempted to downvote the answer btw. That half correctly done DCL is thread safe - what happens at some other code is of no concern to the question)
The community has decided that they don't want to encourage good answers on bad questions. You do reward the person asking a bad question by answering them after all...

That's your opinion but as I said, the community don't want you to help bad askers. Also, my personal opinion is that it's weird to have rep you can't show where they came from.
Answering bad questions teach people that they can write bad answers and they'll still get the answers. In case you haven't noticed, most people are mostly interested in having an answer to their problems.
@JohnSnow not sure I get that. If someone writes a bad answer, we are out of the scope of this conversation, as the answer will get downvotes and not upvotes
@JohnSnow the case we are discussing is pretty rare. But I think a good answer is still a good answer and deserves reward. Maybe the answer is teaching the person asking the question something useful
