I'm creating an applet and having problems with the positioning as size of my buttons. I've added two buttons, but the "OK" button seems to position and size itself correctly, but the "CLEAR" button fills the entire applet area behind the "OK" button. A: applet button filling area

When using a BorderLayout, you should specify a location where you want to place the component. If you don't specify this, the default is BorderLayout.CENTER. So you are adding both buttons to the center of your panel, which stretches them both out. I think that BorderLayout is not what you want...

I was lucky enough to learn how to program with C++ and Java at roughly the same time

The logic paths are SO DIFFERENT

The web application that I'm working on now is a neat idea I came up for doing grocery shopping

You input recipes with all the ingredients and their quantities

And then you plan out your week with these recipes

And you can get a list of all the foods you have to buy at the grocery store in order to do it

Thats smart i guess, you would just have to make the data entry enjoyable.

So line by line, it'll see "1 cup of flour" and it'll recognize 1 as a number, cup as a measurement, and flour as an ingredient inserted by the user

of ingredients

It would have to be smart enough to know if "of flour" is a separate ingredient or I'm actually referring to flour

because it could be corn flour

One containing the request just made to the server, and the other containing all I need to make a response

my group is always looking for new languages that do server side coding.

It's called JavaServerFaces (jsf) if you want to look into it

i personally prefer using primefaces library.. makes everything look awesome

lets you skin your application very easily too

That's a demo of some of the things you can do with primefaces

Databases are considered another side of the web application and jsf doesn't directly manage that

but there are libraries which handle that aspect as well

I use hibernate which is a library that makes the interface to the database uniform for any database
