I have never had issues with this, I always resample image uploads and I always do it from the temp location, because if you do that PHP auto-GCs them at the end. Even if it were possible, it would happen with everything - the problem here is only with files >100k

MVC as a pattern has nothing to do with the file system. you wont find any serious paper on the topic stating MVC is a folder layout. It doesnt say where to put files.
