and just because Madara moderates rooms, it doesn't mean that he has a suggestion to change the status quo

anyway, while ideas such as from Undo are great, the decision has to be made by SO staff

well, the room has to make it crystal clear that all discussion should be in English, and those who intentionally violate it should be kickbanned ASAP

there's already a semi-official note by Shog from a little while back, effectively saying "use English"

another option, besides kickbanning, is using gallery mode in the room, when only those can speak who are given explicit write access

it's more tedious, and frustrating for newcomers, but you can very easily revoke the write access of those who don't abide by the rules

its just that it has been froze once and you know you kind of come in the bad book of the moderator.

if you're willing to enforce the rules yourself, without outside intervention, you should be fine

yup, since this whole discussion have come up with a lot of rooms being targeted with flags.

but if room owners step up and extinguish any foreign discussion (besides greetings and stuff), there would be no flagging to begin with

previously, they just freeze even if someone tries to argue that we can moderate.

I've seen mods freeze rooms before, and it's not this simple

usually there are a few guys pro-actively agitating the moderator in question, showing no sign of compliance

current situation is mod are tired of repeating the rules and people dont know it.. we middle guys end up as the bad guy :p

if you piss on the table, you'll run into problems

@Shubhank currently foreign-language rooms float in a legal vacuum inside SO chat. It's a kind of privilege that these rooms are currently allowed to exist (even if this sounds shitty). So room owners have to make a lot of effort to bridge the gap there

so it's normal that you middle guys take both the blame and the work:)

middle guys include us who moderate the flags too 10K +

either you keep repeating and enforcing the rules, or mods will have to, but the latter will be short and violent

although if there are flags in question, there's already something wrong

ideally there should be no foreign flags, Shog himself specified this as the condition for tolerance of foreign-language rooms

if I had a room in a foreign language, I wouldn't tolerate any foreign discussion

it's a choice every room and its owners have to make
