@JerryCoffin That's not how you calculate it: 1500 paying customers @ $2500 each gives you $3.75 million each year. Return from fee paying customers is 3.75/670 = 0.5597% per year. Inflation for the past 10 years averages about 1.5%-2% per year, which means, you will never makes your money back from the existing paying customer base.

A good return on money from asset is about 5%-8% from medium risk investments (over the past 10 years).

A lot of of the times, tech startups look like a Ponzi scheme. Of course there are startups that offer useful innovations, which value should not be measured in monetary terms in a short period. But those ones are few and fur in between.

Hating SO is a meme. Its a pretty good service, and I'd ask more questions if sehe hadn't previously answered them all :-)

Isn't a meme just a truism that's felt by the wider culture commonly expressed through irony.

That being said people should do more research before asking questions.

@CupOfJava Sometimes. Often, however, it's something more "truthy" than actually "true". That is, it kind of "feels true", or at least feels like it should be true, at least to people who aren't very smart and/or haven't given the subject much thought.

@JerryCoffin That's an interesting point but I'm not convinced it matters. Maybe in a hard-science sense "true" matters but when it comes to what influences an outcome more, I think "truthy" is far more important. For example: the 13th floor isn't actually unlucky but people think it is, so that leads to the real-world outcome of buildings not having 13th floors.

@CupOfJava Getting back to the original question: much of the problem arises on SO because you have something approaching a head-on collision between truthy beliefs and actual facts (e.g., "conio.h" is a standard header, because it works in Turbo C++ on MS-DOS, which is what I was taught in school).
