The 5D has considerably faster autofocus, so if you want to do something like sports where you want to focus on fast-moving objects, the 5D will be worth the extra money, weight and loss of other features. Otherwise, the 6D is probably the better choice.

It's intended primarily for people shooting sports, so it places a strong emphasis on fast shooting. People who do landscape photography (with a Canon) will almost always choose the 5D over the 1D (but for this purpose most photographers would prefer a Nikon or Sony over any Canon).

@JohanLarsson This is almost entirely a fallacy. You can get essentially the same noise level with a higher resolution sensor, by averaging pixels together to reduce resolution. In theory you lose a little, because the "wiring" on the sensor chip takes up a larger percentage of the area as the resolution goes up. That effect is almost purely theoretical though (and with Sony's back-lit sensors, it's not even theoretically a factor).
