@davidism might be a silly question, but what are your rules with merging prs? I see that you merged your own pr? Is it a matter of just waiting for another core contributor to give a +1 and it's the OK to merge?

I made the PR so that I could have a URL to point to in the change log, and so that if there was an issue latter people could reference it easier, but I was pretty confident in these changes.

It's slightly annoying because Travis.CI will test both the branch commit and the PR, so you get duplicated tests.

If we cleaned up the workflow and only allowed commits through PRs, we could disable "build pushes".

right...we run tests on pr, and then push to pypi on tag once in master.

But that only really works if you have a feature like in GitLab where you can force PRs to be ff-only.

Because otherwise merges that required merging won't be tested.

random sharing of what my topic-of-the-day is - today's reading material is reading about node's scalability.

Is it web-scale?

this is what I'm trying to really get a good understanding about. Because, there seem to be quite a lot of high performing applications that use node, and I read about how fast node is.

it just seems like node needs to be horizontally scaled. Unless I'm really not understanding how efficient node really is at being bombarded by several requests.

Unless I'm mistaken, local namespace lookups are fastest. So if you say CONST = cls.CONST_NAME at the beginning (inside your function of interest), then using CONST instead of cls.CONST_NAME might also be faster (my notion of this subject is pretty vague, so I easily might be wrong on this one)

they are usually module constants, and even PEP8 mentions them

the only constants I'm closely familiar with are scipy.constants, which also seem to be module constants

if it's a constant defined on the class level, I'd expect it to be a class (or module) attribute. This expectation of mine might be wrong.
