@Adriaan: I'm no matlab expert, but the equations are obviously different. I'm guessing that the concepts involved, that is solving the indefinite integral, would be the same for both (but again, I'm just guessing).

Take that back -- I'm not even a MatLab novice.

but to the point of the question: he's still trying to solve integrals you'd usually solve with complex analysis, and he simply takes a different branch cut from what MATLAB does. MATLAB is still right, as is he; see flawr's answer on the second

So the answer to his latest question would be the same as the answer to his initial question.
