ssube either misinterpreted what Zahid was talking about, or wasn't paying attention until later when I was using terminology that could have confused him in regards to relative HTML/CSS positioning

That relative positioning is just the browser doing it for you, which I think is what you meant by "manual."

it just gets passed off to queryselectorall, which is going to miss any changes made by .data(...)

if all changes were made by .attr('data',...) though, it would work.
