I used to use windows 8 pro on my intel atom dual core processor 1.6Ghz. It runs (well not like butter cream smooth) ok ok. Eclipse and all those ide's hang but rest run fine.

but I still have that laptop, its a 13" , i don't use it much because, it not very portable, I tried to open and see what is inside it, and now when I put it back its display and sound and touchpad doesn't work. I have to plug it with a monitor with a hdmi

Love it with Start8
I hated windows 8 until I tried windows 8.1 with Start8. Start8 is a third party software which returns the Windows start menu. It is based on Windows 7 start menu and is fully functional. I'm glad that I decided to go with Windows 8.1 over Windows 7. Give it a try there is a 30 day free trial for Start8.
