@JMRboosties I'm running 0.8.2 right now

I had a problem shortly after updating to 0.8.4, but still had the same problem when I downgraded again. Just haven't gotten around to updating back to 0.8.4.

yes, local.properties points to studio/sdk

which is the directory where I have my SDK installed

but if you have a separate sdk installed, you should probably be pointing to that instead

its the same place i point on 0.6.1

if you go to project structure

and click on your main module

under the properties tab, are the only things filled in the compile sdk version and tools version?

the plugin version (the first field) is blank for me, that might be a problem but idk what it would contain

You might try clicking "Sync Project with Gradle Files" on the toolbar.

Usually when I have "undefined symbol" compiler errors, it's because gradle needs synced for some reason.

is your jdk location something like

/System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/1.6.0.jdk/Contents/Home

no...but then I installed it exactly where I wanted on my Linux box
