A little time spent figuring out autolayout saves a lot of time writing twice the code to account for iPhone & iPad and even more time writing special cases for special device sizes... and that doesn't even begin to account the maintenance time.

Plus... take a look at what Apple does historically.

A few months ago, back in February, they stopped accepted apps that didn't have a 64-bit build.

Right now, you don't have to support iPad multitasking. How long is Apple going to let that last before they require any new submissions to support splitscreen and PiP

So I used: @property (nonatomic) BOOL isPaused instead.

They may have decided to use that, because it becomes clear everything stops working when the game is paused.
