and probably would have been better if we stored both an ISO date and a local time

Every thing I've found is how to convert it to another timezone when I'm searching for how to keep the timezone as the timezone it was locally played in

I think you may be mixing up the terms, ISO is just a representation

ISO is the format it's stored is it not? E.g. UK is +01:00

+01:00 is the timezone offset part of a date object, according to ISO yes

and its easy to convert to any timezone which we need

Mark, are you hard set on using an ISO date here? I'm wondering if using millis/seconds since epoch would be a good fit here, as you should be able to represent that locally as new Date(timeinmillis)

@petey the date which is stored in our servers is ISO to help with comparisons, I think we thought it'd be easy for everyone to convert to the local time the event happened
