had this one in my code:
result = JOptionPane.showMessageDialog(this, "The following files already exist and are protected to overwrite:\n"+protfiles+"\nPlease choose a different filename.", "Protected Files", JOptionPane.OK_OPTION, JOptionPane.ERROR_MESSAGE); it does not compile and I dont know why

one line below I got this one:
result = JOptionPane.showConfirmDialog(this,"The following files already exist:\n"+failfiles+"\nWould you like to overwrite them?", "Existing files", JOptionPane.YES_NO_CANCEL_OPTION,JOptionPane.QUESTION_MESSAGE);
and that works fine
