I have table which contains 20,028 records(I am using phpmyadmin) .This I get when I execute `SELECT * FROM `members` ` query but when I execute this query `SELECT COUNT( * ) FROM members` I get 20672 count . I dont understand how is that is possible?

What are the technical reasons why I shouldn't use mysql_* functions? (e.g. mysql_query(), mysql_connect() or mysql_real_escape_string())?
Why should I use something else even if they work on my site?
@WilliamFrancisGomes No I don't think so...there is only one row with 3 fields (poundRate, dollarRate, and euroRate). I want the script to run whether I put in 1 value, 2 values or all 3 to submit
@Kay There is no excuse to still be using mysql_ crap nowadays. It's been dead since 2012 and has been removed already in the latest versions. If you still build stuff with it nowadays, it's like building a horse carriage and thinking that you're still building a car. Yes, it's that ancient.
@Kay THERE IS NO NEED TO SHOUT! And you can use MySQL with PDO. And if your employer really specifically asked for mysql_, then your expertise should be kicking in and you should educate them properly. You're the professional, the client should be listening to your critiques. If not, they're dumbasses.
@undefined Admin area !== database administration. They're very different things. Admins of an app have no idea about database design and why a column has or hasn't got to be there.
(or at least, you should never assume that they do)
@undefined And how is your app going to handle that? So he adds a phone field. It has to be shown in the forms (view) and there probably has to be some kind of validation. It adds all kind of new problems.

if you need an ability to have custom fields (which are not used for search), then you simply create a "data" column and dump JSON with those "custom fields" in it
and, if later you need to get one of those custom fields as searchable, you can create a new indexed column and extract the data from the "data" column
