I've been written up for breaking a policy (multiple times) at my school that I don't believe I broke in these instances. The policy is over anyway as of a couple days ago, but they are still pursing it regardless because the incidents happened while it was still in place. They have a judicial process but it's not a real court and I have very little power to defend myself.
if they are not serious at all, it's usually better to just brush it off and apologize and move on so they don't put a little red dot in your "file" as in (this dude is problematic)
@JBis then prepare your defense: I understand what you're saying etc.. and it won't probably matter, but I'd like to set the record straight and explain my side... and I'm sorry for the whole incident / misunderstanding it certainly wasn't my intent etc..
and maybe a small life lesson: it's very hard to win against an institution, a case can be life-altering for an individual but for them it's literally a file with an auto-increment ID
@JBis in that case you could emphasize that your bad you misinterpreted it (assuming your interpretation makes sense lol), be humble and apologetic and don't worry too much, 1st years usually make mistakes when adjusting to uni life
@ballBreaker I mean... IKEA ships furnitures to your apartment, you can even pay them to mount it, TV can be bought online or from a store and shipped immediately... and frankly as you arrive you'll probably rent a fully-furnished place while you look for a flat so you have time lol

@Mehdi the issue is that I just spent like 2k on new furniture and am attached to the ones I currently have, and don't financially have the money to drop like 10k on new shit
@ballBreaker no, there's a literal document (oh by the way they couldn't even produce it when i asked, i had to wayback machine it) with exceptions specifically listed
also the exception for eating is "actively eating or drinking", people have been written up mid bite due to varying definitions of "actively"
then there is my car im about to buy out of it's lease, etc so i'd basically have to if I was goign to seriously consider it.. I wouldn't ship EVERYTHING but there are some things are a must for me

@ballBreaker a lot of people here get furniture second hand, appliances (fridge etc..) reconditioned (I got a 2m tall furniture for 20€ :)), for a 2 rooms apartment you can probably furnish it fully new at 3 or 4k max, or half that if you're willing to buy secondhand or reconditioned stuff
(not trying to convince you, just giving you some figures to give you an idea)

Which doesn't really detract from your point that the rules are BS, and also doesn't deflect blame away from yourself.. and owns up to it and apologizes. They'll likely look better on meekness than you trying to fight the system no matter how much you believe you're in the right (which it sounds like you are)
@Mehdi This is super helpful though! thanks :D I think if I did do this seriously, I'd more or less sell off anything that wasn't extremely important or essential to me. Depending on how much it would cost to ship/etc and try to just get the main things I would care about like my standing desk, bed, new couch, TV, PC, etc
@JBis definitely get that, been there and it sucks. But it's almost always less painful than a dragged out fight w/ someone in authority over your future
one thing I make sure to do though, as much as I can, to set the record straight, never know what happens in the future
so it's always good to give your version when you're not judged fairly, to let it be known you disagree
it's like getting a manager who's a bully, they write a negative point in their review, there is nothing you can do about it, but you write: I disagree with everything that was said, and if there is a recourse later, this will serve as a base for appeal or dialogue
@Mehdi If I have a seq[A] and seq[B] , where I have a common val between them that I want to group on, is zip typically the best way to iterate through them
After installing clean windows on multiple systems many times I observed that windows will boot fast and work smoother till the very first automatic update
@Mehdi Similar to what I want, but basically I have two lists of objects, admins and profiles, which both have ldap IDs. I'm trying to join the 2 lists into 1 list that are grouped by that ldap
