SAP Portal is the current internal website thing and Sharepoint supposed to be the successor of that (which by now has been like way over a year in the making and there is still nothing working).

VB was used back then because pretty much everything here was written in VB and it integrated well with the SAP Portal

if you're handling 0-3 items updating from the parent and pass the data to the adapter, letting the fragment do the lifecycle dance, sounds more reliable and not complex.
