There is a short story of Lem which I read about 30 years ago. IIRC, it explains that scientists figure out that the probability of a dragon spontaneously manifesting is, under certain conditions, 0.6. That splits the world's scientists into two camps: one insists that you need to count those .6 of a dragon from its snout, and one that you need to do that from its tail.
