WPF is being too helpful for (my) own good. Apparently when you have a TabControl whose tabs are dynamically bound to a list and repeated as a data-template, WPF optimizes by only instantiating the data-template once, and re-binding and re-rendering whenever you switch tabs, so as to not instantiate the whole thing more than once.

@mark333...333...333 To do an edit, you need to pull the entity from the database, and then apply the changes to the entity. This usually happens through some kind of database context, like a unit-of-work. If there are permissions involved with the user context, decorate the database context with his permissions. In our applications. pulling ID=2 when you don't have permissions for ID=2 simply returns null. Then the controller will just say 404. As if it's not there.

And yes, this is not going to be a 5 minute job.

You really have to design everything from the ground-up to support permissions and filtering or you end up hacking away at everything until you're left with one huge mess.

@mark333...333...333 The basics really involve setting up a proper user authentication. You want to track who is logged in. Then set up dependency injection for the database context that serves a database context that is filtered for the user login (through a decorator). Now every controller only has access to what the user can see. Mutations happen by getting the entity you're mutating (and if null, it's a 404) and then applying the changes. Quite straightforward if you can think about it like this.

@mr5 there is. IObservable is push based notification. So for example You can create a new IObservable by defining the generator of events. Observable.Interval(TimeSpan.FromSeconds(2)). So with IAsyncEnumerable You have both that push based notification combined with yield of IEnumerable. Whenever both sides are ready, the foreach will process the next element

There are some good reasoning about when to use composition or inheritance. Composition is more pluggable. You do inheritance when You are sure all the boilerplate code that was written down in one place ain't gonna change in one of the predecessors. With multiple inheritable interfaces it's going to be easier to gain from both in the form of interfaces.

a single run of this method is about ~32ms

I've an issue regarding visual studio 2013 that's driving me crazy: When running the application from visual studio it keeps telling me: " Could not find file ...\appName.vshost.exe.config" but this file should be automatically created by VS, right?

@nkoniishvt no. It depends on the project type. Like creating a WPF project will create a config file for You, but after that, I can imagine if You delete the config file by hand, it will not recreate it. It have no template to copy from anymore

try create a new project, copy the config file specific part from the new project's csproj into the old one, and copy the config file also

@ntohl Ok thank you. I've created a fresh WPF project and it does not contain an App.Config either. Do you think this is a template issue? I've created an "empty" config file by hand using add -> new item and it does not raise an exception anymore... What the hell

I'm working on a legacy WinForms app, some developer had set variables like this:
public static string txt_Size01 = "", txt_Size02 = "", txt_Size0 = "", .......txt_Size40 = "";
off course I'll change that to Dictionary<string, string>

Hey guys, sorry for newbie question I might just ask - why the hell would I need cloud (hosted) or installed Visual Studio Online agents? I set up my project to be source controlled under TFS, and I saw the "auto build" options. Isn't it enough I build the code on my local machine? Or as the code grows the build takes hours to complete and it's better off hosted elsewhere than dev machine?

I've never been close to any 'serious' developer environment, hence the question

with autobuild, it will tell you if the build successfully compiles or is broken after you commit and push your changes

so the whole team knows if the build is good to go or not

I guess I wanted to "get the feeling" of working with "proper" processes, seeing what actual developer environment is about, with all these work items, "epics" and other vocabulary VSTS uses

Dev is still auxiliary to my main role as It admin anyway ;-)
