I am trying to vertically align two divs but the top div has a dynamic height, is it possible to make the lower div stretch to the remaining height? I gave the top div a height: auto and a max-height of 50%, the lower div has a max-height of 100% but is just does not stretch all the way down to fill the remaining height. Seems that the max-height property on the lower div does not work.

Could someone be so kind to elaborate?
