When you float, direction aside, you create a new layout context which breaks out of it's normal state. A floated element will be discounted by it's parent unless you hack it to keep track of it.

Why has Google made two div, one called footer and one called fbar....for footer they have put bottom:0, height:35px, position:absolute, width:100%....and fbar as background: color , border-top , line height:40px, min-width: 980px.....I put all of this under one div and called it fbar, in my webpage there is a slight white gap at the bottom left corner

To fix it , I used margin-left:-27px , this time the White blank was no longer on the left side but now at the right bottom end of the page

I have no idea why this is :/ and how to fix it
