from a business standpoint -- the guy who can toss in the 9 tools and get a working UI in a couple days is much more valuable than the guy who insists on forging his own components and then insists on the rest of the team using them because they are superior... not to mention they no longer come with free support and upgrades.

that's not really a good way to approach a project when you're being paid for the time you spend.

it's fine for personal things

learning all the vanilla crap is fun, rewarding, and makes you understand the libraries better. but it isn't really marketable (in masse)

personal projects should be an art, like building a boat in your basement

companies aren't worried about not using libraries, every library is a little risk and a lot of time(/money) saved

I was scouted for a position there, but was disapointed I would have to move to Washington or Cali so turned down the offer.

@BrianJ I would suggest ovh.com/us/vps or RAMnode, you won't find better prices and neither oversells badly. Most importantly, they don't charge you for bandwidth overages.

@BrianJ WP on Azure is a total garbage. PHP on windows hosting leaks, and Azure "optimizes" it by using threads instead of processes ("fast") which causes it to constantly leak memory and for your servers to restart every few minutes/hours. The MySQL hosting (cleardb) is painfully slow and pretty expensive (so you'll want to pop up a MySQL VM) anyway. The server sometimes stop working, for no apparent reason. On the other hand, doing it in a VM will likely be fine.
