At this point, I've a 2D array that still needs to be mutated into a string, the part that's commented out. The `this` reference in the splice method doesn't work. I know I could break that chain into two but that seems messy to me. Someone else suggested I create a structure like
`[{char: 'a', count: <n>}, {char: 'b', count: <n>}, ...]`
However, I don't really see the functional difference between that and what I've created,
