The other is to use SESSION in combination of feature detection and automatically redirect capable browsers to the modern scheme

The third is to simply have IE9 users not enjoy the 1-page-app-goodness and just let them refresh the page whenever they click a link

With a notice that says "You'll get better out of this app with Chrome or Firefox! Upgrade today!"
