I don't want to offend anyone by mentioning the name of the city, but it's in Michigan - Again, how are we supposed to know if these warnings are warranted? Michigan is a big state with a lot of cities. Are you going to Ann Arbor? Then the warnings are probably not warranted. Are you going to Detroit? Then they probably are. Why would that offend people that live in Detroit? Detroit has the fourth highest murder rate in the country. That's a statistical fact. Tai-chi is not a form of karate. It's one step removed from yoga (research it). Even if they offered you actual karate classes that won't help on a short-notice trip. And even black belts lose fights against mace/pepper spray/tasers/fire arms. You might as well bring your own pepper spray, etc. or whatever is legal for you to carry (do your research).
