The fixed pipeline was actually somewhat more difficult in that respect, because if you didn't manage the state correctly the next calculation would be corrupted

But with the programmable pipeline, the state is automatically reset after each shader program completes its operation I assume

I honestly miss the fixed-function pipeline just because shaders are a pain in the neck to get into an engine -- lots of time spent on boilerplate because of it.

I have looked into newstand apps in the past but have needed a bit more granularity when providing that sort of content

i needed to make fast customizable layouts and using IB was so much faster, in addition i could sit a designer in front of IB at the time and let them get on with it and i filled in the gaps afterwards
