Anyone done overlays in Android? I have a button that when you click it makes a HTTP request. I want to make an overlay on top of the current activity/fragment with a spinner and maybe some text. Anyone have some good tutorials or documentation about how to do this kind of thing?

I've also tried adding and removing a fragment but I think this is error prone

no, I'm still using old style xml

and my question is about how to do the overlay, not necessarily the contents of it.

what do you mean by "a layout that you include where you want"? Can you point me to example code?

I'm not at my pc rn

You can have a full screen view and a progress bar in a xml

And you can use include to include it in multiple xmls

You'd still need to call visible/gone

I can do something in about 30 mins

I'll play around with it and figure it out.

use constraint layout and add a full screen view and a progress bar over it. make the view android:clickable="true". use visible/invisible on the contraint layout
