Lets say the attacker can see that "something" came out of the client and then "something" came out of the proxy at the same time, they can conclude that the client initiated a particular proxied request.

I'm striving for anonymity here.

General approach is just volume here - if you have thousands of clients using the same proxy, it's hard to pinpoint any one activity. Other approach is to have your client put out a constant stream of traffic, so that real activity does not cause a noticeable bump

If you're ony pIf you're only proxying chat, another option is disguise - hide them DNS tunnel or other protocol that is expected to be "always doing something" while a computer is connected to the internet
