wait -> puts thread into pause until notify was sent
Semaphore -> ensures atomic access to the variables

so basically with while condition, your thread is pretty much running, just not executing the logic of the thread

whereas with wait, it got paused entirely, until you wake it up and ask it to put back the lock on the resources

you could learn about ASTs, how a Javascript code can be run on the JVM, meaning how can it be evaluated as a Java code

what you can build with it, could be a code sandbox (like codility, hackerrank etc..), where you only have 1 JVM based backend

yet allowing people to code on JS as well as Java

you could also try to do static code analysis to make sure that users don't create infinite loops that will crash your code sandbox

Kotlin runs on the JVM, so you don't need to do much, however JS doesn't, so you could have this phone programming game support 4 languages: Java, Kotlin, Scala (all 3 run on the JVM) and JS which gets evaluated by Nashorn then compiled into Java Byte Code

A relatively costlier approach of solving this isolation problem (prevent infinite loops made by 1 user to affect all the users) would be to spin up a container per user (I think the smallest jre docker image is 50mb of size and suppose you give it 128mb of ram), which means you could run 100 users per 16gb ram / 20gb disk machine
