I'd like to do fade-in/out animation for an ImageView so that it doesn't scroll behind the hamburg menu icon, can anyone tell if I can do that with View.OnScrollChangeListener ?
Logic would basically be: if ImageView Y in screen > ?attr/actionBarSize -> Fade In, else, Fade Out

I've tried my hand at something somewhat similar with CoordinatorLayout.Behavior, but now I'd like to try something on a View that's in a different View hierarchy(e.g.: this ImageView is in a FrameLayout)

fading out won't prevent it from "scroll behind the icon"

unless it is completely faded before reaching the icon

otherwise yes you can do with a scroll listener

Breno - If you're image right now scrolls under the ActionBar, and what you want is that as soon as it's partially occluded it starts to fade, then you can do that with an OnScrollChangedListener and check the Views position within your scroll container

Your scroll containers top value should be the ActionBars bottom (height) value.

I know the "Migrate to androidx" feature in Android Studio isn't perfect, but is it still a good start? Am I better off using that and then going back through manually to make updates than I am looking at the class mapping myself?

Then I showed them my example where it's obviously not saving and we looked at the source code for View and it's not saving the visibility ....
