if your view before 10 is not generated then it will definitely give you NPE

the 12th position in ListView is not generated then how it will return you a view ?

ListView only load that much items which are visible.

and if you still want values without loading then need to send data from arraylist instead of listview

inyour case it will be

keep a track of selected index and then set it simply
        if(position==selected))
        {
            convertView.setBackgroundColor(android.R.color.black);

@SilentKiller it is for chatting, text, image, audio, everything can be deleted if its user's own message, otherwise, shared, forwaded, play audio and update UI in adapter, save images in gallery, provide feature that will allow image to be viewed only for a specific amount of time
