Though to be honest, the only concerns should be whether processor does x86 or x86_64. Forced obsolescence is kind of silly when it comes to software, because it's virtually assured some nutter 25 years from now will be trying to run it just because it's a fun challenge

it frustrates me somehow that so much of our software now just won't be reproducible for fun in a few years' time, if only because much of it requires "always-on" connectivity to some online service, or has an "installer" that actually just fetches the real software from some online service.

took great pleasure in installing Win3.1 on a VM last year, just because

now the notion of "they must upgrade" and "why should they be on old versions? force them out of that habit" is pervasive and overrides all

thank goodness at least Firefox lets you install basically any version (crucial for dev work) and probably Chrome isn't horrible at that either

Microsoft actually provide VMs with old versions of IE and Windows for the same purpose

I totally understand the statement "We won't support older systems", but it's silly to actively go out of the way to block functionality. But thankfully it's just blocking updates, not the install itself. They probably plan to clear some of the old update servers to make space for new updates.
